Sometimes your position requires that you be separated from the world to a degree. Your work may demand it, or your service may ask it of you, or the people you lead may need to see you as a bit separate. Elevated, if only a little bit.
In those times it’s easy to see yourself as separate or elevated, too, and you must avoid this at all costs. When you see yourself that way, that’s the ballgame – then, you can’t help but see others as being in service to you, rather than the other way around. So you have to – have to – seek out wisdom to ground you in the truth. The library has countless books on the topic, and many philosophers have spoken about it at length.
As for me, though, I find that having a little buddy nearby who’s mostly there for the treats does the job nicely.
